helpPAssion North Run 2014 (8 km)

This is my first time participation of PAssion North Run 8 km competitive run.

This is my personal Duathlon race with cycling (5.2 km), running(8.2 km), running (2.4 km) and cycling (5.8 km).

Took one bowl mixture of soy protein and Milo.

Started cycling at
4:08 pm to Yishun Ave 2 via Woodlands Ave 7, Sembawang Way and Canberra Link for 5.2 km and reached there at 4:29 pm and parked my bicycle beside the road next to The Eating house next to Simpang Kiri PCN entrance (The T junction between Canberra Link and Yishun Ave 2).

Walked to the starting point about 1 km away. Took one pack of fruit drink.

Reached the starting point around 4:40 pm.

Did some light warm up.

Started from 8 to 10 rows from the starting line.

The PSI index was quite high around 85.

Saw many F1 runners at the front row and some familiar faces like William Teo and he is one of the strong veteran runner and estimated he finished around 37 minutes. Once the race started sharp at 5:00 pm, was blocked by quite a number of slow runners and waved around to pass them. Overtook few strong female runners like Yuri Shona Pek and Sara Lee within 300 meters. Met another two strong female runners and always ahead of me for about 50 meters. The strongest lady runner   stopped around 5 to 6 km on up slope of Admiralty Road West and the accompanied lady stopped with her.

Completed in 39 minutes 46 seconds (The finishing time board shown 38 mintues 50 seconds ?) with average speed of 12.3 km/h for
8.18 km as recorded by my Soleus GPS watch.

Have a good run and may finished in top 100. Saw my neighbor took pictures at the T junction of Sembawang road and Andrews road (up slope but not so bad) and at the finisher line and  hopefully captured some of my photos.

The water points are ample at an interval of 2 kms. The first km marker is wrong with my timing of 5 minutes 12 seconds. Reached 2nd km marker at around 10 minutes.

Took one bottle of 100 plus, one bottle of mineral water and lucky draw and finisher medal. Exchanged my coupon with one "Zhio Chen Gao" nine layer cake and 2 sticks of satay with cucumber and raw onion. Played two games.

Did a slow run at 6:09 pm for 2.4 km for 15 minutes on Simpang Kiri PCN and backed to the junction next to Thai food food eating house to retrieve my bicycle.

Cycled home from 6:28 pm and reached home by 7:05 pm for 5.8 km.

Just love my faithful New Balance Minimus  MR 10 shoes.

The Minimus Road which was released in 2011 and had the 4 mm drop is called the MR10, and the trail version is called the MT10.

The Minimus Zero released this year is the MR00 and MT00, with the "R" and the "T" designating the road and trail versions.

The Zero series with the 0 mm drop, and also the 10 series with its 4 mm drop.

MR10 shoe that could handle high mileage runs. It was supportive enough to continuously handle 20 miles  distances. It encouraged a midfoot-forefoot strike, and could be worn with or without socks. My favorite aspect of the shoe however is the sole, which is very similar in the new MR00 line.

The stack height in the new MR00 is a minuscule 12 mm on the heel and the toe. The MR10 for comparison is 18mm in the heel and 14mm in the toe. The REVlite midsole in the MR00 is very flexible, and contains Vibram rubber in high abrasion areas to hopefully provide many miles of use even in minimal footwear. It's listed weight is 6.1 ounces.

The shoe contains a very wide toe box, and a narrow heel. The midfoot of the shoe is also very narrow. It is easy to have a little bit of spillage over the middle of the insole as the shoe is so narrow in the midfoot. The toebox however can accommodate even a wide foot.

The upper is constructed of a highly breathable mesh and it possesses some stretch for a very comfortable fit. The tongue is attached on only one side and lacing is innovative and secures the foot like a glove.

In terms of the ride of the shoe, it definitely feels more scant than the MR10. MR10 is more supportive and firm sole. The REVlite midsole on the MR00 is much more flexible than the MR10.

Chua Chu Kang B.I.G Farm Walk and Run 2014 (10 km)

This is my first time participation of 10 km competitive run for this run.

This is the first competitive run without personal BIB and without prices.

Woke up at 5:45 am and took some light soy drink breakfast and some bread.

Parked at one of the nearby Multi-Storey car park.

Reached the venue after a short walk at 7:00 am with wife and daughter (both of them participated 3 km Fun Walk). I did a slow jogged as part of the warm up preparation. The weather is cooling with cloudy sky but the haze PSI is around 97 at 7:00 am at 94 at 8:00 am.

This is the first time started from first row. No local top runners participated this run since no prices were  given.

Started the race at 7:29 am and completed 7.91 km according to my Soleus GPS watch for 38 minutes 59 seconds with average speed of 12.1 km/h.

Felt great to be one of the front runners for this race.

The lead traffic police on police motorbike occasionally slowed down and even stopped waited for the champion to catch up since his speed wasn't the fastest with the absent of top runners.

Quite surprising, there wasn't even a single female runner whom able to keep pace with all the front runners including me.

Took half bottle of water at 4 km (they should not handed out water bottle) and one cup of water at 6 km.

Have a good run and finished in top 30. May finished in top 5 if there was a veteran category.

My 2XU singlet is useless with so much sweat retention and stick to my skin felt very uncomfortable and distracted my run.

Felt surprised when the finisher medal were given out at the finisher line at 8 km. The finisher line should be at the opposite road after a u-turn around 9.3 km.

Took few pieces of banana, one bottle of water and few cups of cold Milo.

Many runners complained both water points ran out of water.

Despite some minor hiccups, quite happy with the organizer with quite well organized and value goodies bag and some organized activities with the lowest $10 registration fee which was heavily subsidized by PA.

They should at least provide some prices for top 3 or even up to top 10 Men's and Women's open category !
